About Chito Ryu
Chito Ryu is a traditional Okinawan style of Karate founded by Dr. Tsuyoshi Chitose (1898 – 1984). O’Sensei Chitose sought to develop a curriculum informed by his martial arts training that would develop both the physical and mental health of its practitioners. As a result, the syllabus of Chito Ryu is broad, including weapons, grappling, throws, and joint locks.
Sensei Shane Yukio Higashi is a hanshi, 9th dan Seiko Shihan that has been teaching Chito Ryu for over 50 years and is the current head of Canadian Chito Ryu. Sensei Higashi has been instrumental in developing Chito Ryu in Canada in addition to establishing it in eight other countries. Sensei Higashi is also technical advisor for karate Canada, an inductee in the Canadian Black Belt Hall of Fame, and National Chief Instructor for Canadian Ryukyu Kobujutsu.
