The Michael S. Delaney Memorial Cup is in honour of the late Sensei Michael S. Delaney, Rokudan, Renshi, former Chief Instructor of the Atlantic Karate Club and Technical Director of the Nova Scotia Chito-Ryu Association.

During his career, he created the Nova Scotia Karate Association, the Canadian Chito-Ryu Karate-Do Association, and the Society for the Promotion and Preservation of the Ryukyu Classical Martial Arts in conjunction with other interested parties.  Sensei Delaney was also a major contributor to the production of the technical manuals for the Canadian Chito-Ryu Karate-Do Association and the Society for the Promotion and Preservation of the Ryukyu Classical Martial Arts.

His passion was teaching Chito-Ryu karate. He was well respected for his ability to teach and provided technical courses provincially, nationally and internationally to thousands of karate-ka over his career.  His technical skill and teaching abilities were formally recognized by the International Chito-Ryu Karate Federation in 2001.

A practitioner of other arts, he attained the rank of sandan in kobujutsu and nidan in iaido.

Sensei Michael S. Delaney, a friend, a teacher, and a mentor to many, passed away from cancer on Tuesday, September 9, 2003.

We honour his memory and spirit by striving to do our best in a tournament among the Nova Scotia Chito-Ryu family.
